You Find Time for the Things That Truly Matter

When my alarm went off this morning, two radio morning show hosts were talking about what they ate the day before.  One of them ate very little.  She said she was so busy that she didn't have any time to eat.  Too busy to eat?  Really?  What's next?  Sorry for the stink, but I just didn't have time for a shower.  Or, sorry about the bad breath, but I haven't had a moment to grab my toothbrush.  I hope one of her relatives buys her some Depends in case she's so busy she can't make it to a bathroom.

OK, so this is an exaggeration.  But if we can't find the time to take care of one of the most basic human needs, what else may we be missing?  I've always been a big believer that you simply find time for the things that truly matter.  These are the things (or people) you refuse to let get crowded out of your life.  No matter what's going on, things on this list will always be given priority.  It could be a person or an activity.  Maybe it's your parents or spouse or child.  It could also be date night, or the art class, or going to the gym, or volunteering your time.

Whatever it is, hopefully, you have at least one thing to put on this list.  Some people may have very few.  Others may have many.  If you can't think of at least one, you are likely living a pinball life and could also use some improvement on your time management skills.

For the things on your list, decide if this truly encompasses the "must haves" in your life.  If not, begin to tweak the list so that you can begin to move forward prioritizing the people and activities that mean the most to you.
